As we’ve used shapes to ponder Jesus, it’s actually created some really potent symbolism for Jesus’ life and also for the shape of our stories.

One wonderful addition has been individuals in our church community “sharing their shape.” Many of these personal stories have been authentic and candid, testifying of where and when Jesus’ story has intersected with their own. Personally, I’ve found these to be some of the most encouraging moments in our services in the past month.

What about you?

What shapes have stood out to you along the journey?

What has God been speaking to you in the shapes, scriptures, and content below...

  • The Circle - An unending line that rotates around an Unseen center point. The Unseen point is revealed like a radius from the center, in the life and ministry of Jesus. (John 1:1-14)

  • The Triangle - Jesus intentionally represents humanity in the three-in-one Godhead, and His life and death invite our broken humanity to be restored inside triune love. (Matthew 3:11-17)

  • The Square - Jesus’ ministry was intensely public, relational, and even offensive to religious sentiments. He was and still is in the public square, healing, teaching, and restoring the broken systems, lifting up the marginalized, and calling us, the disqualified. (Luke 5:27-31)

  • The Star - Jesus’ ministry included great signs and wonders, which reveal His nature. His mission was to call out the original design in each of us to shine like stars, so He would radiate through us into the darkness. (John 5:2-9)

  • The Heart - Jesus was deeply compassionate. He literally identifies with our suffering, shoulders our griefs, carries us into healing, and even the heaviest wounds we’ve felt are held and healed in the agony of Gethsemane. (Matthew 26:36-46 and Luke 22:39-46)

Who knew there could be such deep revelation hidden in such simple, child-like shapes.

And now I'm seeing these shapes hidden in so many places around me. These everyday designs are now signs drawing me closer to Jesus.

And, even though we know the story’s ending, these themes and shapes are giving us new routes for experiencing and pondering the depth of who Jesus is and what He’s done for us.

  • What is it about Jesus’ story that is arriving in fresh, new ways for you?

  • What shape seems most significant to you?

  • Is there anything that stands out to you about the shape of your own story?

Well, this Sunday, we’re diving into a unique shape as we wrestle with the rising tension around Jesus. He’s now facing opposition, offense, and rejection in a sermon called, “Half a Circle.”

See you Sunday!
