5th Sunday Serve!

As you know, we instead of a normal "worship service" this Sunday, we are doing service as our form of worship this Sunday. Please read on, even if you aren’t planning on participating in the service opportunities downtown, as there is something for everyone.

And if you’re joining from a distance, please join us in praying for Santa Cruz and for your own local community. Also, may the ideas below spur you on to some of your own creative ways to serve others like Jesus serves us.

When:

Meet in the sanctuary promptly at 9:30 (you can even show up early!). We will provide a quick orientation, guidance to our launching location downtown and pray together. Plan to leave the church campus by 9:45am.

Who:

You and your family and friends. Come with comfortable clothes and walking shoes. We will venture out in groups to clean and provide. We will also be praying as we go along.

Who else:

If you aren’t joining in on the serving portion, stay in the sanctuary to pray and sing with others in support of this worship through serving.  Dick and Shari Mills have offered to lead this time in the sanctuary.

What:

We will supply trash bags and gloves for those who would like to participate in the cleansing portion of service, collecting trash along the river walk and downtown.

We also have a number of large and medium coats/ski jackets to give out to people in need. Perhaps you have something else you’d like to provide for someone in need?

How Long?

We will wrap up our time downtown at 11:45 with a debriefing and prayer.

Our goal?

Our goal is to be in line with the first two public activities seen in Jesus’ ministry.  He provided (at the wedding by turning water into wine) and he cleansed (the temple of impurity), both in John 2.  We hope to learn about serving together as a church and following Jesus in the present tense through serving in our community.

Be in prayer as we draw near to this special time. Prayers for divine appointments, timely provision, helpful service, protection and guidance.
