Shifting Our Mindsets
Our prayer during the Abundant Life series has been that God would shift our mindset each week.
What mindset has stood out to you as you've journeyed with us?
Shifting your mindset isn't easy.
Our minds get comfortable in one place.
That's why Jesus says first: "The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy."
Only when we realize that what is sucking life from us are our thieving mindsets exposed.
We don't realize the level of "natural resistance" we have to the things of God until we begin to try and follow Him.
Our thieving mindsets are the beliefs we have about the love of others.
Thieving mindsets give us untrue conclusions about God's desires for us.
These inherent agreements about our value, are ones that steal, kill, and destroy who we are in Him.
But the hope is, that our thieving-mindsets rest in the same place where Jesus' Abundant Life wants to break in.
It's just a matter of seeing what is stealing our life,
then setting our minds on a different truth.
Just noticing what is killing our joy,
and giving that area of death to Jesus.
Just whispering to God what is corrupting our hope,
and setting our minds on what Jesus says about us and our future.
It's actually in recognizing the very mindset that works against Jesus (seeing our lack, uncleanness, despair, and hurt) that sets us up to receive Abundant Life.
And Jesus promises us: "I came that they may have life and have it abundantly" (John 10:10).
There is only one place to go to receive Abundant Life.
Go to Jesus.
Rest your mind on Him.
Tell Him about your lack.
And rest your weariness on Him.
Stay there.
That is where Abundance breaks in.
This Sunday, we'll study “Jesus, the Teacher" and prayerfully shift our mindsets from "Resistance to Reliance."
May we see the areas where we've been resisting Jesus, even subtly, and receive the mighty gift of Jesus' Word and His Spirit through deeper reliance on Him.
See you Sunday!
