As we’ve pressed into the resurrection accounts of Jesus as He meets with the disciples, I’ve been reminded

how often they just don’t get it….

Watch Sunday’s Sermon “A Glorious Inheritance” from our I Speak Jesus Series

From Mary thinking the resurrected Jesus is a random gardener to the two disciples on the Emmaus road who after traveling and eating with Him still don’t recognize Him until He opens their eyes…

Jesus must reveal Himself to us and others. We can’t muscle our way into this Kingdom. He comes. He’s present when we don’t see Him. And He reveals Himself to us because He loves us.

Sometimes Jesus allows us to wait and wonder. Yet even this is ultimately to open our eyes, our hearts, and our minds more deeply to Himself.

Also, Jesus takes time to reveal Himself to their hearts.

With each encounter, Jesus speaks kind words and asks questions (that He already knows the answers to) just to open their hearts.

He asks Mary at His tomb…“Who are you looking for?”

To the two on the Emmaus Road, Jesus asks, “What things?” And they recount to Jesus the story of His own ministry and crucifixion…

There is so much more Jesus is setting them up for.

Jesus’ resurrection set up Mary, the two on the Emmaus road, and the 12 disciples for an encounter beyond anything they had ever imagined.

They couldn’t see Jesus until He showed Himself, their hearts and minds couldn’t respond until He opened them…

And only when His power moves on them through the Holy Spirit, can they make the God-sized waves that we are carried by today as believers.

May He move so on us, and ripple through our lives this week.

See you soon,

Pastor Dave
