Dear High Street Family,

Wow, we made it! We traversed the lofty mountains and deep valleys of our Explore God series—what an adventure!

We’ve opened conversations around some of the biggest questions about life, God, and faith. It was a lot of ground to cover…

·      How has the journey been for you?

·      What have you learned about God?

·      What about yourself or others?

·      Where did you notice God moving and leading during this series?

Whenever we tackle big questions like these, it’s so easy to get stuck in our heads. Of course, all the wonder and awesome reality of who God is ought to stretch our brains and draw our minds to truth and worship.

But, to borrow from C.S. Lewis, we can too easily live like “men without chests.” If we’re not chewing-on and digesting what we learned, our heads can grow bigger while our hearts shrivel. Our own ideas, language, and intellect—even good, Christian ideas—if they stay ideas only, can be cut off from God's work in our hearts (where flow the springs of Life - Proverbs 4:23)

Jesus said, “You search the Scriptures because you think that in them you have eternal life; and it is they that bear witness about Me, yet you refuse to come to Me that you may have life,” (John 5:39 ESV).

And just one chapter earlier, Jesus also said, “The hour is coming, and is now here, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for the Father is seeking such people to worship him. God is spirit, and those who worship him must worship in spirit and truth.”

So here we are. At the end of our exploration of God, we can conclude with Jesus as a good idea, even the best Idea—and still miss out on the Life that He wants to give our hearts and souls.

All the capital-T truth that we’ve learned, can lead us astray if we don’t come to Him in capital-W Worship.

God, through Jesus, is calling worshipers. Sons and daughters who come to Him in Spirit and Truth. Who come with their heart and their minds open, ready for more of Who He is in their lives. Ready to give more of themselves to Him, too.

  • As this series resolves, what truth or idea has stood out to you most?

  • What might it look like to talk with this Jesus who says He's with you now? Just be present with Him for a moment.

  • What would it look like to begin experiencing this Reality of who He is now, where you're at today, even in your next few breaths?

Well, with that lighthearted word… we have a few exciting and new things on the horizon that I want to highlight for you!

Thanksgiving Service: Our beloved Thanksgiving service is Sunday at 9:30am, so let’s anticipate stories and testimonies that reveal how God is moving among us! What would you want to share with others about this last year? Are there any areas you’re grateful for?

Holiday Happenings Flyer: We’re jumping into the Holiday season with some festive and worshipful events—click here to download or print our High Street Holiday Happenings flyer!

New Advent Series: We’re also starting a new Advent sermon series called The Carols That Made Us!

Like the shows, The Movies/Toys that Made Us, we’ll be exploring not only the origins of some of the classic Christmas carols that we hear through the malls and stores during this season, but also the rich scriptural and theological underpinnings of these lyrics that make Jesus’ arrival so amazing. Be ready for wonder, nostalgia and Jesus! Click here for the flyer!

Guest Speaker: my friend Brion Burkett, pastor and leader from Roseville, will be preaching for us the Sunday after Thanksgiving, and it’s going to be an amazing time together. Brion’s one of the most creative, deep, theologically rich persons I know, and all this flows so naturally from his relationship with the Lord. It’s going to be a unique and transformative time together.

Looking forward to all that the Lord has this holiday season at HSCC!

Pastor Dave
