Living “Wide Open”

Our upcoming sermon is called “Wide Open” on Aug 7th, dealing with Acts 10 and the faith being made open to the whole world.

Up until that time most believed that faith in God was for the Jews, God’s chosen people only. However God made it abundantly clear that He loved everyone and the Jews were chosen/blessed to be a blessing to others…God’s choice to share His love with the world.

This new mindset was difficult at first for the early followers of Jesus, but they eventually understood.

Who is out of your mindset when it comes to sharing God’s good news and love? God certainly uses our circles of influence to share Himself with others, but God also likes to go outside of our boxes too. Some of the best stories we hear are when two different people from different backgrounds and social circles make a connection because of the Lord. The Holy Spirit and Phillip meet and minister to the Ethiopian Eunich in the middle of nowhere (Acts 8).

My encouragement for us is to have our eyes and hearts open to the leading of the Spirit in this way. Let’s be attentive to His cues much like an obedient dog on a leash…not like the untrained puppy distracted and yanking in all different directions. :)

Who comes to mind when you think of a “I could never talk to a person like that…”? What social group would you see as unrelatable for you? Jesus continually broke those barriers and invites us to walk in His ways. I wonder how (and who) the Lord will bring into your life as you make yourself available to Him.
