Newsflash: Pastor Attends Church
I went to church last Sunday.
No really—"I went to church”. For the first time in a while, I basically had no part in putting on the worship service. Sure I was included in emails, answered a few questions/gave suggestions, but for the most part I just participated, followed and worshipped as a member of the congregation. It was great!
It’s not that I hate leading, preaching or directing the service…but there is something sweet about just coming and experiencing church like most people. I enjoyed a few surprises and appreciated the effort put into each testimony, song and leading up front.
Many years ago our family went to Mexico City to celebrate my mother-in-law’s 80th birthday with her family, all still living around that area. It was so much fun! They took us all over this enormous city, and I never knew where we were or how we got there (or back home). I was just along for the ride (and tacos).
Last Sunday enjoyed our service because others were in charge and led us through the experience. I even gained a tiny glimpse of how a new person might feel coming to HSCC. This renewed perspective helps me to be a better leader/host and prompts the desire to keep in mind (and heart) those coming for the first time.
Do you appreciate being led in our worship services?
How can you help others feel relaxed as they are led to connect with the Lord?
I can’t imagine trying to navigate Mexico City on my own…nor do I wish for anyone to figure out church on their own.
So let’s continue to keep that in mind as we follow Jesus and invite others alongside.
