Among the Ordinary & Glorious
Hasn't it been a wonderful few weeks of Christmas at High Street?! We’ve been singing carols, having family fun (we even had a church-wide game of charades on Sunday!?), watching Christmas movies in the Sanctuary (who was there for ELF!? Classic), and opening our hearts and church for Jesus to “make home” with us.
Home is where the majority of our most formative memories happen. Just like us, Jesus was enwombed, held by His mama and cuddled by His dada. Like us, He learned to walk, talk, play and live in relationship (eventually with brothers and sisters too). What glory! Jesus, the Son of God, experienced ordinary life like us with all the trappings, inconveniences and demands of human living.
He understands family.
He endured busy seasons.
He served, and sang, and worshipped, just like us.
Jesus said, "If a person [really] loves me, he will keep my word [obey my teaching]; and my Father will love him, and we will come to him and make our home (abode, special dwelling place) with him” (John 14:23 AMPC).
To “make home” in us, Jesus first had to “make home” with us.
And we’ve been challenged to “Stay Engaged” as Joseph did with the Holy Spirit (Matthew 1:18-25) and to “Treasure the Treasure" as Mary did in welcoming His presence...
This Sunday, we'll be immersed in "Unexpected Glory" as we study the Shepherds profound encounter in the fields, and consider that out of this, they found Jesus, in His first home amid His ordinary family, in a manger, the ordinary and glorious together.
See you Sunday!
