What’s the question behind the question?

When we ask “Is there a God?” what do we mean?

Do we mean, “Does God exist?” Or, perhaps, “Is He relevant?”

Are we wondering about other religions? Or maybe why others reject God?

Are we asking a question about the origin of the cosmos? Or about what is the ultimate right or

wrong?

Or, maybe our honest cry is whether God cares about me and my situation?

You see, the question behind the question opens us up. It helps us to see.

It helps us to engage beneath the surface with the reality of what we’re actually thinking when

we ask, “Is there a God?”

A pondering posture like this opens us to the personal and cultural baggage contained with the

big questions of our Explore God series.

“Is there a God?” isn’t just a one-time answer. It’s not just a formula for faith. It’s not something

to blindly jump into. Or an argument to push someone into the kingdom.

As we learned Sunday, “Is there a God?” is really an invitation to a relationship.

And, despite needing our wits about us, this is ultimately a relational issue.

How we answer this question effects the very season we’re in. Even the very day we’re having

right now.

• What about you? What has come up as you’ve considered, “Is there a God?”

• And what about our next question, “Why does God Allow Suffering and Injustice?”

• What might “the question behind the question” be for those around you?

• What about for you personally?

Well, I’d like to offer three additional resources for fueling your faith as you continue this

journey toward the One who made us.

See below to dig in! And see you Sunday :)
