Moved with compassion, Jesus reached out and touched him. “I am willing,” he said. “Be healed!” Mark 1:41

As we go through our Messy Spirituality series I’m seeing how much we all need this reminder of just how genre-breaking Jesus’ acceptance was of the flaws and disqualifications of those around Him.

How, because of Him, those wounds were the way into the Kingdom, the way into His love.

Consider…

  • What went through Jesus’ mind when he saw the hurting?

  • What went through Jesus’ heart when he saw the rejected?

  • What did you feel when He saw those locked up in fear?

  • What were His thoughts when He saw those living with comparison?

Watch Sunday’s sermon “Multi-spirituality and Jesus” from our  series Messy Spirituality

Take a moment, I want you to picture Jesus‘ hand touching the wounded one.

  • Who are they? What do they look like?

Now picture Jesus holding their cheek with his palm.

He’s looking into their eyes.

He’s whispering something meant only for them.

Stay there with Him.

The Holy Spirit flowed through Jesus without measure (John 3:34).

  • What could He do with that one word?

  • What happened when He touched a life?

  • What is His desire for those He loves?

For those who came to him, none were rejected, all were healed, all restored, all loved (Matthew 15:29-31).

In our series, Messy Spirituality, we’re learning how Jesus is attracted to those who felt disqualified, those who were in the middle of pain, those rejected for their low status, or those who are just plain stuck.

And we’re seeing that admitting and engaging our own Messy Spirituality, as we follow Jesus, is the natural connection to our culture, to those to whom Jesus would say, “Follow Me.“

Let’s open our hearts, and see who Jesus might invite in!
