Unseen Movements of Life
As the air begins to warm, the birds practice their songs, and the tiniest buds begin to grow on trees…
We’re glimpsing the first signs of springtime.
Ah, what wonder.
But let me ask you, when does spring start?
Where does spring begin?
No, not the date, you sillies.
And no, not just the vernal equinox.
The movements of springtime actually begin to shift and grow long before we see the outer fruits of beauty and wildlife.
Spring begins long before our eyes see it.
In fact, science tells us that the unseen movements of life in the plants, the weather patterns, the animals, even the earth’s rotation begin a domino effect in the ecosystems around us before the calendar marks the change in season.
Those unseen movements of nature propel new life into the stems.
They call to the instincts of the songbird.
They press warmth into the soil.
Spring is beckoned forth and begins its symphony under the surface.
The subtle movements reveal a season’s shift before the bud and flower —can you sense it?
Spring is already underway.
It’s underway long before we declare “Ah, look at the flower. Listen to the birds! Feel the warm breeze—Spring is here!”
“Okay, but Pastor Dave,” says you, “Why are you saying all of this? Isn’t this a church email—where’s the churchy stuff?!”
Well, my friend, I’m saying this for a few reasons—including that it’s just a beautiful world our God has created—but mostly, I’m featuring this because I believe this is not just the season outside, but the season at our church right now.
We are experiencing the undercurrents of spring.
Subtle movement that fuel true beauty and fruitfulness ahead!
The bitter is fading from the breeze.
We are seeing the tiny buds.
We are hearing the wings of heaven.
Yes, there are still some barren trees.
Yes, the mornings are cold with frost.
And yes, spring-in-full isn’t here yet, but it’s coming.
The weather patterns of the Spirit are shifting and we are entering a new season!
Do you see it?
Do you feel it?
Can you hear it?
Either way, bring a friend this Sunday for our new Easter series, Toward the Cross, based on Luke 9:51 & 53 -
“When the days drew near for him to be taken up, he set his face to go to Jerusalem” Luke 9:51.
This crucial verse marks a moment in Jesus’ ministry when He intentionally turns from the variety of pressures and needs around Him and sets His face toward the Cross—one thing that will change everything—His death and resurrection for us.
We’ll study 7 crucial moves He makes on that journey and be challenged and shaped by His intense focus and love for us.
Let’s pray, “Holy Spirit, open our eyes more to Jesus and take us deeper as we follow Him together!”
