We just launched our new series, The Secret Place, and I’m beginning to see this theme (The Secret Place) everywhere in Scripture.

Watch Last Sunday’s Sermon “The Prayer the World Thirsts For” from our new series, The Secret Place.

Did you know God created a special place for us to hide in His Presence?

  • In Psalm 139:15 - The Secret Place is the womb. A place is where we are protected and created inside, hidden from view.

  • In Psalm 27:5 and Ezekiel 7:22 - The Secret Place is the manifest presence of God in the Holy of Holies in the Tabernacle, a sacred place where God’s power and presence are hidden while praying and presenting petitions to God—and where we can prayerfully behold His beauty.

  • In Psalm 51:6 - The Secret Place is hidden from view in the inner recesses of King David’s heart, where he, alone with God, can learn wisdom and counsel from Him.

  • In Psalm 81:7 - The Secret Place also refers to desert wanderings of Israel, where, during their testing, they were hidden away from the view of other nations, in the struggle and trail of the desert, they cultivated a secret place, where they had to rely on God alone.

  • In Psalm 31:20 and Psalm 91:1-3 - The Secret Place of God's Presence is a shelter and a covering created by HIs goodness. That as we exercise trust, our souls are hidden in the secret place of God's presence, where we privately contemplate His majesty, and our very lives and flourishing are protected and preserved by God’s peace.

All who cultivate this Secret Place of prayer, will experience God recreating us, giving us new tastes of His presence, counseling us, shaping us even in testing, flourishing us in trials, and protecting us with His hand.

The Secret Place isn’t just about a list of requests. It’s not only about getting answers to our prayers.

It’s a powerful relational reality that we can experience the presence of God.

And it’s a place we enter into through the practice of prayer.

In the Secret Place we cultivate a lifestyle of communing with God through conscious awareness of His nearness. Where we have honest conversation with Him. And learn to be attentive to the variety of ways He is forming and shaping us.

Do you want to be in this space with the Lord?

This is an invitation. It’s not always easy to choose, but it’s the best thing for our souls.

What would it look like to take a moment and talk with the Lord about your Secret Place now?

May we continue to know the Lord more deeply, and learn to be loved and known by Him too.

See you Sunday,

Pastor Dave
