Living in Prayer Like Jesus
Have you been spending time in your Secret Place with the Lord?
As we've begun to explore The Secret Place in our new sermon series, I'm seeing how wonderful and difficult it can be to both engage-in and stay in this space with Jesus.
When I look for these moments with Him throughout the day--boom! He's right there.
When I'm overwhelmed, I'm practicing coming to Him with that, bringing that very issue into my Secret Place with Him.
“But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you” Matthew 6:6.
Watch Last Sunday's Sermon "Prayer in God’s Presence" from The Secret Place series.
There's nothing that “isn't allowed” into that special space with Him.
You don't have to edit your issues.
You don't have to come clean and tidy.
You don't have to have right motives for being there.
Jesus was constantly going into the Secret Place with His Dada.
"As often as possible Jesus withdrew to out-of-the-way places for prayer" Luke 5:16 MSG.
There are more than ten times that the gospels directly record Jesus going away from the main thing, the mission of His life, the needs of people around Him, the potential training of His disciples, etc... just to be alone with His Father. (Mark 1:35, Luke 4:42, Luke 6:12, Matthew 14:23, John 6:15, Luke 9:29)
This wasn't just a healthy habit.
The Secret Place is Jesus' life.
(And it still is - "He is able to save to the uttermost those who draw near to God through him, since he always lives to make intercession for them” Heb 7:25. )
It's where He was at home.
The Secret Place is where He flowed with the Holy Spirit.
Where He received counsel, healing, revelation, and life.
Even at the paramount of struggle and suffering, Jesus withdrew to the secret place (Matthew 26:36-44, Mark 14:32-34).
Jesus needed the Secret Place.
For ministry.
For counsel.
For healing.
For living.
And we do, too.
Why not take a moment to talk with Jesus now? Go into your Secret Place, and share a moment with Him.
See you Sunday!
