A Beauty to the Budget

Budgets.

We all have some sort of connection to one or many of them. “It is that time of year again”, when the topic comes up in meetings I’m a part of. This year feels a little different though. I

’ve never been one to hate the budgeting process, but I wouldn’t want to do it all the time either…not bad enough to call it a "necessary evil”, nor does it “spark joy in me”. :)

This year is different for a couple of reasons. Yes, we are still in the lingering effects of the pandemic, and civil unrest, political challenges, weather catastrophes and … and… who knows what is next?

Budget is a forward thinking process and tool to help guide our actions in the coming year. But what if the year is tough to predict?

  1. How do you budget when so much change is in play?

  2. How do we plan when we don’t know for sure our future resources?

Good, hard questions.

These questions actually force us to focus on what we DO know:

We know that the Lord wants us to love people with Christ’s love.

We know He wants us to equip people to live into the lives He has gifted and called them into.

We know there are missionaries around the world counting on our support as they serve in unique places and situations.

We know that our church is a group of Christ followers that gathers regularly to worship God together and invite others into that community.

Join me in praying for God’s provision and leadership as we navigate these uncharted waters:

Pray for our leaders as they discern God’s heart for these things and plan ways to participate effectively with the Lord.

Pray for the PLT (Pastoral Leadership Team) as they shepherd our community,

Pray for the Deacons as they manage details of the church (budgeting is one of the big ones),

Pray for the staff as the execute hands-on ministry with volunteers.

Our church is in a stable place financially, especially considering all of the challenges.

Most importantly, I believe God’s gift of a stable place to stand invites us to surge forward, advancing God’s Kingdom, even now, even in new ways to love our neighbors.

I’m excited for us to creatively, faithfully and boldly consider God’s plan for HSCC moving forward. How about you?
