Offend My Mind, Reveal My Heart
As we’ve studied the Kingdom of God, we’re asking Jesus to reveal more of His continuing ministry on earth, now, in us, in our church, and, yes, even beyond our walls.
And I realize we’re asking impossible things.
The Kingdom of God depends on a power and a Person who is by nature miraculous, supernatural, and extraordinary.
And as we trust His Holy Spirit to move in and upon us, we’re setting ourselves up for moments and stories of wonderful breakthrough, encouragement and awe as God shows up and His “will is done on earth as it is in heaven!” (Matthew 6:10)
While at the same time, in the Holy Spirit, we’re also beckoned into the unknown, unfamiliar, and uncontrollable.
God moves in wonderful ways, and also ways we don’t expect, don’t understand, or sometimes wish were different.
“I’ve heard it said that God will offend your head to get at your heart,” and I like that. This phrase highlights a strategy in God’s Kingdom, and though our mind is so so important, our culture will over-analyze, worry, and study until we’re blue in the face. And not one taste of the Kingdom has “come on earth.” Our minds have gone a million miles but our spirits are dry as dust.
There’s a song called, “Preference”, by Rachel Morley, a lesser known worship artist. And the main lyric goes,
“What if it doesn’t look like I thought it would?
What if you come in ways I didn’t know you could?
Offend my mind, reveal my heart
I want Your fullness, not just my preference.”
You know, we’ll gladly give our attention to a good idea about the Kingdom that we can ponder for awhile, but a “God-idea” is totally different.
“God-ideas” come with reality disrupting power. Jesus says, “My words are spirit and they are life”—they’re not just facts, not just theologies, but reality shaping, life-giving, soul-reviving words of power (John 6:63).
Jesus intends to disrupt our status quo just enough to open up our hearts.
”Awake, O sleeper, and arise from the dead, and Christ will shine on you” (Ephesians 5:14).
Let’s be expectant for deeper healing this Sunday as we study and pray into Jesus’ Kingdom mission, as the One who “Binds up the Brokenhearted” continues His ministry in us and through us!
See you Sunday!

Take a moment to ponder these lyrics below.
What stirs in you as you think about having God’s fullness?
What signifies that Jesus is “in the room” with you in church? In other settings?
What comes to mind if you think of Him coming to you in new and unusual ways?
Read through this below and take a moment to talk to Jesus…
What if it doesn't look like what I thought it would?
What if You come in ways I didn't know You could?
Offend my mind, reveal my heart
I won't worship my preference anymore
Right here, if You walked in this room
Would I recognize You and want You to stay?
Or would I not know You and reason You away?
Don't just come how I want You, come how You are
Right now, if You whispered my name
Would I know Your voice? Would I ache to respond?
Or would I not hear You 'cause all else is too loud?
Lord, You have my attention, speak to me now
If You came like fire, would I believe that it's You?
If You came like wind, would I still know You in this room?
You are Alpha and somehow You're still Omega
I want Your fullness, not just my preference
