Staying Present
Looking Back and Looking Forward…
This past Sunday, Maria and I were surprised by the kindness of our church to recognize our 10 year anniversary of serving as Lead Pastor. We enjoyed the uplifting words, cards and beautiful cakes. Time flies when you’re having fun…and also when you’re pastoring…and also when you’re having fun pastoring. :) You get the point. And the older I get, the more I believe that life is quite short as James 4:14b says. “What is your life? For you are a mist that appears for a little time and then vanishes”.
This coming Sunday is Daylight Savings—remember to set your clocks forward. I look forward to that day each year because I love the added daylight in the evening to go on hikes, surf or just to not be cold and dark!
Looking forward and looking back…important things to do. But Jesus directs us to stay in the present. In the Lord’s prayer he tells us twice in the same phrase to keep our eyes on today with “give us today our daily bread”. This is a growth area for me, to be in the present. How about you?
Jesus has taken care of our past on the cross and our future is in His hands as well. Join Him right now wherever you are in the good works He has prepared for you to walk in. There’s no better time than the present. :)
