Begin with Waiting

Last Sunday we looked at Acts 1, in our sermon series “Summer in the Spirit”. We found that even though Jesus gave clear directives to spread the Good News locally and globally, His followers were first told to wait.

They spent some of the time in prayer, doing church business and remaining unified…but their focus wasn’t on the doing, it was on the waiting.

Waiting is hard.

Waiting doesn’t usually come naturally.

Yet waiting on God is one of the best ways to express our faith in Him that He is real and wants to bless those who seek Him (Hebrews 11:6).

God is in control, His timing is perfect and apart from Him we can do nothing anyway (John 15:5).

As I shared God’s truth in this matter last Sunday I couldn’t help but believe that everyone in the sanctuary, everyone watching outside and everyone online all have something in common:

We all are waiting on God for something or someone.

We all need to hear that there is benefit in waiting and that the Lord is good even when we don’t feel that truth.

  • What are you waiting on God for?

  • Who are you praying for and hope to see God’s movement in their life?

Here’s my encouragement to you…ask someone in your life what they are waiting on God for.

  • This question itself is caring if done in the right context and mindset. It opens up prayer and encouragement opportunities and brings unity.

  • The question invites God into the relationship as a participant. Even knowing others are challenged in waiting helps me to not feel alone.

Let’s wait well together.
