Dear High Street Family,

“If anyone is thirsty, let him come to Me and drink. He who believes in Me, as the Scripture said, ‘From his innermost being will flow rivers of living water.’” But this He spoke of the Spirit, whom those who believed in Him were to receive; for the Spirit was not yet given, because Jesus was not yet glorified. John 7:37-39

How is your water intake?

Watch last Sunday's "From Death to Life In Christ" part of Becoming a Dwelling Place Sermon Series

Last week, we were traveling as a family, and one of the main struggles with three little kids is--did they get enough water?…And even tougher, with all the busyness, did the parents get enough water?!

We can't force anyone to drink water--especially children. They have to feel their thirst (and sometimes it helps to add some juice!).
And that requires developing a bit of self-awareness.

Plus experiencing that wonderful, God-given feeling of that thirst being quenched.

Just like parents do for their kids, it's our job, as Christians, to authentically articulate our thirst, to be honest about our thirst

When we can share our lack, we can also offer the wonderful, satisfying, life-giving water from our relationship with Jesus.

We can model what drinking from the deep well of Jesus looks like.

Consider:

  • What does it look like for you to drink deeply in your personal relationship with Jesus?

  • Have you drawn near to Him?

  • Are you enjoying the Rivers of Living Water that flow from Him to you through the Holy Spirit?

They drink their fill of the abundance of Your house; And You give them to drink of the river of Your delights. For with You is the fountain of life; In Your light we see light. Psalm 36:8-9 AMP
‍ ‍Some of us are like children:

  • Quick to forget our thirst.

  • Or unaware of the signs of our thirst.

  • So we need someone to model an authentic thirst for us and beckon us to Jesus.

  • Who has modeled thirst for Jesus to you? What would it be like for you to share a bit of that with others?

AND some of us are like parents; we're so busy

  • Busy with our schedules.

  • Busy with other's expectations.

  • Busy with serving others or serving the church.

Honestly, it's worse when the parents forget to drink because they're caring for the kids! The parents' bodies shut down. Their minds fog over. They can't connect with the kids in the same way.

A thirst-ignoring parent costs the health of the whole family!

If parents don't quench their thirst, they not only lack themselves, but their lack affects their closest relationships.

So, whether you're more like a forgetful child or a busy parent, remember that when Jesus says, "Are you thirsty?"

  • He's calling you to pause and consider are you taking moments to actually drink from His life?

  • And He's beckoning you to imagine what it would be like to walk the rest of today soaked in Him?

  • Further, He's beckoning you to deep places, where you can receive and overflow, so that the world around you begins to taste and see that He is good. (Psalm 34:8)

If you're wanting to go deeper with Jesus, come this Sunday as we continue our Becoming a Dwelling Place series and learn to live in His overflowing river together!

See you soon!

Pastor Dave
