Give Us Today, Our Today Bread
Dear HSCC Family,
Weddings, Baptisms and Memorials…oh my!! As I get closer and closer to finishing up my role as Lead Pastor here at HSCC we’ve had an outbreak of special occasions :)
While there is a normal pacing in the life of a pastor in a church like ours, the reality is that no two weeks are the same. In general, my Tuesdays are for sermon prep/email administration, Wednesdays are loaded with meetings at church, Thursdays are filled with meet-ups around town, and Fridays/Saturdays are for catching up on all that didn’t get done on the previous days. Sundays are full and end with afternoon naps, that continue into Monday, my protected day off.
But fortunately, we have a church full of life where people are getting married, choosing to be baptized and even being remembered/celebrated after they graduate to heaven. In all of those special occasions, yes, there is extra preparation, details and decisions. They also may include dancing in parking lots, swimming in backyard pools up in Boulder Creek and meaningful work days at Westlake Elementary.
How do you handle the unexpected schedule additions in your life? Do you embrace the challenge and the ups and downs? Or do you get anxious, or even frustrated with added changes? Honestly, I love the variety and I feel the pressure of busyness. A mix of ups and downs.
Of course Jesus’ advice is to take each day at a time since there is enough in today for us to contend with. "Give us today, our today bread” is a phrase that Jesus uses to center me well. Jesus was very clear that He came to give Life—life to the full.
May you all enjoy your full serving of life this week.
Danny
