What Fog Reveals

A few mornings ago, we had our first really thick foggy morning. From my vantage point, a few miles inland, I could see the fog creeping up the valleys, covering the city and advancing on the forest.

In the later spring and all summer into early fall, fog is our natural “air conditioner” that keeps us cool and soaks our thirsty redwoods until the next winter rains. Do you like fog?

Joe Strock led our staff devotional about living in the thrill of mountain-top experiences with God and the drudgery and sometimes loneliness of the valley’s we all inevitably go through in life.

That time together got me thinking about fog too.

Fog limits our vision, is usually cold, blustery and uncomfortable…especially when it hangs around for a few weeks!

Sometimes my life feels foggy.

I can’t see where I’m going, or I’m uncomfortable in general or even feeling stuck in the doldrums of life.

  • When do you feel like that?

  • How do you walk with God in the “fog”?

The cool thing about fog (yes punny, I know…) is that it can burn off in a matter of minutes under the right conditions. Isn’t it great when it clears and the vibrant colors of creation seem to explode in all directions?

Have you even sat on the beach in Capitola, the fog burns off and then the brilliant ocean glimmers, whitewater waves bubble and those multicolored beach cottages beg to made into a 1000 piece puzzle?

If you’re feeling mired in the fog, cry out to God who is present for our good AND our bad days.

Trust He will provide, protect and guide you.

And know that at just the right time it will burn off and reveal more beauty.
