The clouds are rolling in.  Red and yellow leaves fill the trees. Fragrances of pumpkin spice float through the air. We’re turning a corner. The season is changing.

But how do we know the season is changing?

Watch last Sunday’s “His-Story Makers” service from The Blessing series

A week ago we had an amazing staff meeting at our home. Spouses and kids were invited. We sat around a big table and ate dinner together. We talked about the holidays and spent the evening singing worship, praying, and talking about God. Such a beautiful and rich time in God‘s presence…

The season is changing.

We spent a whole Sunday service at the beginning of November praying in groups, standing for our needs, standing in faith for one another, interceding one on one, praying in groups, declaring the promises of God, and “Entering the Kingdom” together. There were tears, hands held, hugs, laughter, new connections…

The season is changing.

And last Sunday, we reflected together on the history of our church from 1960-today, we witnessed the faith and peacefulness from our inception that propelled decades of impact. And in the Equipping Hour, we talked honestly and intimately about what had been hard, what at times didn’t work, and how our forgiveness and reconciliation has strengthened the tethers, and deepened our trust for the growth God is bringing….

I see, the season is changing.

Jesus said to the Pharisees, “You know how to interpret the appearance of the sky, but you cannot interpret the signs of the times” (Matthew‬ ‭16‬:‭3‬ ). And though we often assume Jesus means “end times,” in this context He’s calling them to discern the moment, the season, they were living in!  (See ‭‭Luke‬ ‭17‬:‭20‬-‭21‬ ‭& I Chronicles‬ ‭12‬:‭32‬.)

As we press in for “The Blessing” for a third Sunday, in order to capture the season, we’ll use the powerful tool of “Thanksgiving” to reflect on God’s momentum and presence in our lives and in our church.

We’ll reflect on the three questions below. I encourage you even now to take a moment to sit and talk with the Lord, listen to what He might say, and prepare your heart for treasuring Him. For gratefulness always reconnects and prepares us for more awareness and access to all He wants to do in this new season.

See you Sunday!

  1. Noticing God- How have you seen God move in your life, in this church or in others around you?

  2. Difficulty, God & Others- Where have you experienced an area of struggle or difficulty in which you’ve seen God at work? And who has God put in your life to walk with, encourage, support, or bless you?

  3. The Blessing- Is there a person you would like to “bless,” affirm or encourage? Is there a verse, image or aspect of God’s heart that you want to “bless” them with?
