Preparing for the Wave
Dear High Street Family,
Thank you to Daniel Burchell, who provided a wonderful sermon last Sunday in our Catching God’s Momentum series, called Preparing For the Wave!
Daniel speaks of the metaphor of Catching God’s Momentum to be like surfing and catching the wave. He explains that we want to be riding the wave, since in Christ that is where safety and provision are, and things somehow work out because we are then in the center of God’s will.
Daniel says that the question then is:
How do we prepare for the wave?
We heard how like surfers, we can watch for the wave already behind us, wait for the right time, then paddle so that when the wave catches you, you’re already in motion!
Daniel asks:
What then does paddling look like?
We hear how David has his ups and downs, beginning as a lowly Shepherd, and an overlooked one. Even his father when asked to bring his sons to choose a king, neglects to bring David, but David is who God picked! David ends up having an enduring forever legacy. So how do we prepare to have an enduring forever legacy? We learn how David prepared by:
Pursuing Intimacy with God, As a shepherd writing and singing songs to the Lord as he tends to sheep
Having Incoming Vulnerability, His heart laid bare to God’s scalpal
Having Outgoing Curiosity, Asking Who is my God? How do I hear His voice? What is He asking of me? Seeking Him diligently
If you missed the sermon or want to watch and listen again,
May we all sit with the Lord anew in worship and in prayer, and may we listen and seek Him diligently this week!
His waves are beckoning.
In Love,
Cori Burt, HSCC Office Manager
