4 Steps of Prayer
Last Sunday we began our new series, “Fortified” from the Old Testament book of Nehemiah.
l was encouraged by the enthusiasm of our church on the receiving end of this first chapter.
I’m excited to continue on into chapter 2 on Sunday—are you?
Feel free to read ahead—it is a great story with too much to unlock in each chapter.
Consider what nuggets the Lord might be revealing to you?
Please share with one another.
As I spoke with Maria later that Sunday afternoon, she encouraged me to again share in the all-church email the 4 steps of prayer that Nehemiah detailed in the first chapter.
This is a powerful prayer model for us to live out as a church and I'm so glad we already pressed-in together on Sunday!
Here it is again briefly:
1. Confession of God: Tell God who He is, how great He is, etc… (Neh 1:5)
2. Confession of Sin: Honestly, transparently, declare personal and corporate sin to God. (Neh 1:6-7)
3. Remember…if: Remember promises of God to restore, regather and rebuild. (Neh 1:8-10, Ps 126)
4. The Request: Ask God to give success, grant mercy (Neh 1:11)
Can I ask you not only to pray for these things for yourself and those close to you,
but also for our church as well?
Prayers like these are the foundation God builds on…we will reap what we sow.
Let’s sow our future with God, by following this simple prayer model.
As we believe and act out that belief in actually praying expectant prayers, we demonstrate real faith.
I wonder how God will bless us in the coming weeks, months and years?
