Edge & Oasis Summer Newsletter
Hello and happy Summer!
It has been a tough past school year for students as well as parents, and we are stoked to have made it through. We also have been thoroughly impressed to see the students’ resilience and perseverance throughout such a strange school year. With that said, we are pumped that summer has arrived, and want to make you all aware of what we’ve got going on throughout this summer with Edge and Oasis. Please keep this email throughout the summer so you can look back at details for each event.
As a reminder, students who have graduated from 8th grade and are entering high school are now able to attend Oasis events, rather than Edge. Also, 5th graders moving into 6th grade are now able begin attending Edge.
No Edge or Oasis Tuesday and Wednesday nights - During summer vacation we will be taking a break from our typical weekly programs. Edge and Oasis will kick back off once the fall semester begins.
Edge Beach Bonfire - We will be having a beach bonfire on June 5th from 5:30-7:30 at Seabright Beach for Edge. Pizza will be provided.
Oasis Beach Day - We will be having a beach day on June 10th from 1:00-4:00 for Oasis at Privates Beach in Capitola. There is a very beginner friendly surf break here, so we encourage students to bring surfboards and wetsuits if they’d like to surf!
Edge Mini Golf - Mini golf will be happening at the Boardwalk on June 12th from 7:00-8:30. The cost of mini golf is $7/person.
Oasis Kidder Creek Trip (6/27-7/3) - I have recently sent out an info email to all parents of students who expressed interest in this trip, so I don’t feel the need to repeat all that info in this email. If you did not receive that info email, but would like to please let me know and I will be happy to get it to you! We will be going to Kidder Creek for a week to backpack and whitewater raft in God’s beautiful creation.
This trip is for all high schoolers, including incoming freshmen. It also is not limited to students that attend Oasis every week, so if you have someone in mind that is in high school and might enjoy being a part of this trip, please pass on the info! Let me know if you have any questions! Here is a link to the camp’s website so you can find more info about it: https://kiddercreek.mounthermon.org
Oasis Yosemite Day Trip - We’re loading up the church van and heading to Yosemite for the day on July 26th! We will depart from the Church at 5:30AM, and return by 9:30PM on the same day. In Yosemite, we will be doing easy to moderate short hikes close to the valley to explore some of the easily accessible wonders of the park. The cost of the trip is $20/student which covers transportation and access to the park. We will stop for breakfast on the way, and dinner on the way back. So please send your student(s) with money for breakfast and dinner, as well as a homemade lunch. The waiver for this trip is attached in this email. Waivers and checks can be brought in on the day of the trip, however please respond via email to let me know if your student(s) plan to join us as we have limited space.
Edge Roller Skating - We will be doing a roller skating night at the Santa Cruz Roller Palladium on July 28th from 7:30-9:30. The cost of admission and rental skates is $9/person.
Service Projects (Edge & Oasis) - We have signed up to take groups of jr. high & high school students to the Homeless Garden Project to help with work around the farm for a couple hours on June 13th as well as July 25th. This will be a great opportunity for them to experience serving within their community! June 13th we will be there from 12:30-2:30. July 25th we will be there from 11:30-1:30. Students can ride with us in the church van from High Street (which will depart 15 minutes prior to our serving shift), or be dropped off at the Homeless Garden Project. It is located on Delaware Ave. & Shaffer Rd. In Santa Cruz.
We are excited to continue to hangout with your student(s) this summer and continue to invest in them. Please reach out if you have any questions.
